I do remember the Challenger, though I was not quite two. I remember my mom screamed and then cried. I remember wearing a pink panda shirt and no pants. Sometimes I'm amazed at how vividly I can recall early memories.
9-11: I was in grade 12 that year. My alarm clock was set to switch on so the weather forcast was the first thing I heard in the morning, but instead of talking about the weather the radioman said something about a plane crashing into the World Trade Centre. I assumed a Cessna and immediately smashed off of my alarm clock and got ready for school. The second plane hit while I was eating my Shreddies; I had turned on CNN to see wtf the radioman was about, and then the first tower crashed down. When I got to school, a big group of Filipino guys figured that LA would be hit by a plane next, because it was just like the movie Independance Day. I called them idiots, and went to class.
The second tower fell when I got to my physics class. Our teacher wanted us to calculate the velocity of the falling tower. I called him an idiot, left the class and studied for a chemistry exam.
London bombings: I was also in the arctic. I didn't really find out about it until the end of the summer, when I also found out that New Orleans was pretty much flooded. I hate playing 'culture catch-up' at the end of every summer.]]>

Princess Di - sigh... I had just done a little genealogy and found that we were related by more than 14th cousins... I was sad and mad, she had been alive, but the dingbatted fronch delayed somehow, and she and her dark baby died.... That funeral was amazing... I cried a lot.... then Mother Theresa died too, it was a hard month....
Waco - I worked at a stringer service - the dudes who go out and listen to the scanners, then chase the action and film it for your breakfast consumption. So we had a LOT of tvs all tuned to the news, because we billed on the 'hits' WE saw. The networks wouldn't pay for honest use, we REALLY had to dog them, prove the use, etc. We taped and watched the news, looking for our own shots. Chyron 'bugs' really helped the stringers. (Ours was NEWSREEL video, still around...) We also sold footage to shows like Real People, America's Most Wanted, reality court shows, etc. HUGE footage library.
Anyway, on that day, we had the tubes on, and realized we probably wouldn't see much LA footage on any news channel that day. We watched, mesmerized, as that whole thing unwound. I felt detached, surreal.... Left that company to go to the property management, it paid a lot more....
Christmas tidal waves - we were in Vegas, visiting Dad. While waiting for a buffet, I pulled up the news on my phone and saw the article. I was confused - what earthquake? what tsunami? WTF? Mostly because I am on a notification list for major world eqs, and I didn't get a ping on that one..... weird....
Reagan shooting - I was attending Santana High School - really! The oddest thing was, I was under so much stress then, that I didn't recall him being shot. In college, someone asked me what I thought about it, and I had no idea what they were talking about.... My brain was blank for alot of stuff during that time.... Probably MKULTRA aftereffects, for all I know!
Plime blackout - saw the phrase 'catastrophic failure' and backed slowly away.... Caught a tremendous cold that I'm still getting over. Spent some time at ICHC lolling at kittehs....]]>

I am very open minded, and I don't trust the government. But, as DEP said, What would be the point in faking the moon landing? To feign superiority over the USSR? I doubt that highly. I think it happened, because I honestly don't see the point in faking it. If they could build something with enough power to vaporize an entire city full of people and leave the land irradiated for hundreds of years to come in 1945, I don't see a reason that they couldn't have turned that power or that technological know how into something positive. I'm just a huge skeptic when it comes to conspiracy theories. My main reason for that being that many theories rely on a few facts thrown together, and many leaps of faith in logic. I really have not seen anything that says 100% (Or any percentage) that the moon landing was faked.]]>
JFK and the Moon Landing, I was too young to remember anything.
Gulf Wars. I was still in the military but knew that I wouldn't be sent away. I was in the Coast Guard and we mostly sent the Reserves.
There are many dates in my career that have dual meanings. Coast Guard Day is Aug 4, which is also my Grandmother's birthday. My entrance into the USCG was Jan 26, 1987 and five years later, on that same day, my other Grandmother passed away.
We all live very interesting lives and remembering significant dates are a way to make it more unique.]]>
I was getting my daughter ready for preschool. We lived in CA at the time. I was watching the news and I saw the first tower fall, and I thought it was a building that was being condemned. Then I realized what was happening. My husband was already at work. I called him. Then I called my mother. When I heard about the Pentagon I was even more scared than before. Then they heard about PA, and I thought it was a horrible joke. Then I saw the site of that crash on the news. It was a horrible day. I remember crying. It was scary.
JFK was before my time, but my Mom remembers. She was scared. She called her mother. She said it was awful.

I was driving home from dropping my daughter off at school, when I heard them announce it on the radio. I literally stopped driving. I couldn't believe he was dead. It was so shocking to me.

You point out the technological difficulties and how that was so far above what it looked like we had at the time. You understand the lack of computers and much of the sophistication we see today. What many people born in the computer age have difficulty believing (I mean really deep down believing) is that you can do a lot without computer control, and that tons of the "technological advancements" were actually different combinations or slight improvements of existing technologies. Most of this high tech of the sixties actually looks pretty primitive now.
Another thing that folks forget is that faking a video would have been VERY difficult at the time. Next time you watch STAR WARS, and note how lame the special effects are, remember that for me this was AMAZING. The techniques filmmakers use now, and the tools that anyone with internet access can get now, were not even being imagined back than. Add to that the fact that manual altering of film-stock becomes more obvious with age (as things fade at different rates.)
SO you can either think that we had advanced physical technology to the point that we could get to the moon (and now enjoy many things from or inspired by that effort), or that we had advanced graphic technology so that it could be faked well enough to fool experts even now (and that related technologies just happened spontaneously and the government is, for some reason, hiding advanced film editing techniques.)

I'm curious how you missed all of those in your research of the topic. If I were more interested in arguing this with you, I'd check NASA.
If I may ask, what detail or details about the theory of a faked moon landing convinced you? Were you one of the ones who refuses to believe we even hit space, or is it just the landing that was faked?

*shakes head*I am not trying to argue about topics that are heresay. I wish that we had gone to the moon, but I find it hard to believe from the evidence that has been presented to me through, yes, conspiracists.
I do wish DEP and 520 would be more open-minded on things they can't prove or did not experience firsthand. Do you think the government is trustworthy?
I also wish that I could locate the program that changed MY mind on this topic. It was a low budget cable program. I didn't get that backed up when my last hard drive had to be replaced.
And DEP - I won't be posting anything else I am not 100% sure of, I dislike these type of topics probably as much as most everyone here does, but I do consider them compelling and I do wish some were more open-minded about the possibility of them being true.
As for your evidence of the Apollo 12, etc. landings, can you find any footage of manned landings or just one website that states that they happened in black & white.

I don't remember much about Desert Storm because I was in first grade at the time. I do remember my teacher, Mrs. Willard, being gone most of the year and a horrible, scary substitute, Mrs. Rosenburg, taking her place. When Mrs. Willard came back she was much more tan. She gave us a whole class period to ask questions. I asked, with complete seriousness, if anyone shot at her. The whole class laughed and she did as well. She never answered me and I am still unsure of why the whole class laughed at me.]]>

Challenger - in military training in Denver.... I woke up, my first thought alone in my barracks room was "Uh oh...". Didn't find out about the wreck until way later that day, didn't see the footage for YEARS....
Columbia - I was in the shower. Hubby slams into the bathroom, crying out that Columbia had broken up over Texas... I had been mulling on Venezuela, and was VERY confused about a South American country dissolving over the prezdints home state.... LOL! Then I realized what he said, and burst into tears in the shower. Because I was PISSED at NASA for killing those 7! We spent the day scouring the net, waiting and watching the news to get some clue over how we lost MORE damn shuttle engines...and astronauts...and faith....
Berlin wall - I had just gained my own freedom from military oppression. I cried and screamed and rejoiced and mourned along with them....wishing I had a sledgehammer to swing too!
First Gulf War - preparing to scram if they tried to call me up. Anti War Rallies.... It was an illegal and unnecessary war. And this war is even more so.... Also, during the 'duration' of GW1, I was escaping an abusive husband, moving myself and my furbabies back to Cal. Rather stressful time...

But I COULD sell "reloading supplies" (And what do you do when your gun is out of bullets? Reload, of course! LOL) The store records were in complete compliance with the law, and the people we KNEW and could TRUST to use those little copper and brass jewels correctly were safe....
OJ slow speed chase - was on the TV during a baby shower I was attending in Calabasas. We watched that thing all afternoon, in between shower games...
Sylmar quake 1971 - Was a tiny girl living in Fullerton. I thought my kitten was jumping on my head. Mom recalls being thrown around in the hallway as she tried to get to us kids. Later she found ALL the appliances had moved, even ones that took 3 burly men to put them back in place!
Northridge quake 1994 - For weeks before hand, we all would talk about 'after the quake hit'... I knew it was coming... At midnight - 2am, I was actually driving through the epicenter, feeling nauseous and dizzy and loopy. When it hit, I was in Tarzana, AIRBORNE!! Ooof!! Like when you shake a rug hard, and the end away from you flips up? I felt as if I was on the edge of that far end! I always laughed when I heard radio news saying to watch the TV news to get more data. DUDE! We didn't have cable for 3 weeks, and no power for days. We were still billed for the full month on both, though. But we were historic reenactors, so we had some survival knowledge and plenty of supplies... Lots to do picking up the pieces....House I live in today is about 1 mile from where the water was on fire....Still standing... House across the street collapsed and fell down the hill, has been rebuilt...
At that time, I worked in receivership property management. What an education in red and yellow tags, getting reluctant tenants out of unsafe buildings, rebuilding historic buildings, handling odd utility bills ($10K in water for an empty building with no water service? Ummm, no, we're not paying!)

911: I was in my school library watching the buildings smoke on TV with a dozen or so others before our day started. I remember the awful grin on another teacher's face! I don't want the memory.
