I'm convinced, from here on out it is only beer and liquor for me. Water in the form of ice cubes is ok I suppose.

I'm so happy my parents didn't let me drink soda as a child. To this day I dislike the taste, feel and smell of soda. I occasionally drink root beer, but even then...

I like water.

When I was a kid all I drank was Coke. Didn't really know any better. Recently gave it up... for the most part. I can't have a cheeseburger without a Coke, but other than that. Still can't convince my brother though.

So, a lot of it has to do with the sugar...

I'm a diet decaff soda drinker. Would one surmise from the article that in that case, the common enemy would be the acid?

I stopped drinking regular dr.pepper a few years back and lost 40lbs without even trying.

I'm currently a coke (soda) junkie because of finals and stress — and I know I'm addicted to caffeine. If it's not a coke, it'll be gallons of iced tea.
But thanks for posting this; I'm aware it's not the best for me, and this will give me reason to redouble my efforts to minimize.
(Even though even the water here tastes a bit off...)

You still have the aspartame in the diet soda.

well, you convinced me :)

I NEVER have liked soda, never drank it growing up and I never buy it. My problem is that my work keeps a fridge full of every kind of pop out there, and its all free..sitting there, calling to me. I am down to one a day, but I think I'll just cut them completely..I don't even like them really!

I'm addicted to sugar; I need a pick-me-up in the afternoon. I managed recently to cut back to one a day, which is quite a feat for me (I'm a Dr. Pepper connoisseur. I can sip one of those things and tell you the date it was bottled. The best Dr. Pepper fountain mix in the world is Taco Casa's in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.) Despite this, I hope to eventually break my dependence on sugar completely.

That said, EVERYTHING WILL KILL YOU. It's ridiculous. Just do the best you can and don't worry about it.

i wasn't allowed to drink soda as a kid. isn't it common sense that it's bad for you? the sugar content alone should tip it off, and everyone (i hope, anyway) knows how much sugar there is in it. but yes, i drink it occasionally, but when i do, it's diet. i mainly stick with coffee for caffeine kicks.

i have a friend who is quite obese. her whole family is tipping the scales. i was over there late one night, and her husband was b***hing that they were out of pepsi. apparently, they had downed 4 litres of it that day. despite the fact that it was past midnight, she went to the store to buy more. i was blown away. her 11 year old daughter weighs at least 120 lbs. it is really, really sad.

I found a few of the reasons to quit interesting. I used to drink it like water and sometimes instead of when I was 18-20ish. I only drink one diet coke a day. I like to live on the edge.
