California to LEGALIZE!!!
California to LEGALIZE!!!
So instead of getting some quack doctor to give you a prescription for $100 because of your supposed "anxiety" or alleged "insomnia", you will just pay an extra tax each time you buy yourself another 8th. picked by D3SPiTE 3 months ago

Actually, that's false... even though that website uses the same headline.

There is an initiative in the works that could end up on the November ballot that allows for marijuana to be sold to anyone, and anywhere that already sells alcohol.
So, according to the article, it MAY legalize... but to be so definite about it is misleading.

My big question, is that a lot of the anti-smoking people (cigarettes), are part of the pro-marijuana group... at least, politically speaking.

And if it does become legal, you of course know who is going to take over the industry... the same guys who already have the ability to grow, dry, and roll tobacco. For them, it should just be an easy hop over to marijuana. So how's that going to work?

That was to be my first point.

My second one is:
Will they immediately dismiss all charges for every prisoner in the State who's sole charge had to do with marijuana?

If they do that, they're going to be hit with one HUGE lawsuit!

I was under the impression that there are federal laws governing marijuana use. That one of the big hang-ups with medical marijuana is that people were facing federal prosecution.
So.. how are they going to get around that?

Probably not - the best way to cover thier butts is to clarify that if you are charged with a marijuana offense BEFORE it is legalized, you still did something illegal, and therefore, your judgement still stands under the law at the time.

Is there any precedent out there for something similar, like alcohol coming out of prohobition?

Denver already made it legal. The best related post I can find is:
As far as I can tell they just said to hell with the feds.

I've always said that if by some freak accident I ever became governor of West Virginia, I would legalize pot, promote the state as the American Amsterdam to improve tourism and use the incoming jobs and revenue to wean us off the coal industry. Mother Nature would love me.

Now, if I could just loosen that damn Bible Belt.

Nope. Ex Post Facto or some s**t like that.

notblue makes a good point. I don't want big tobacco touching my weed, they'll just add a bunch of chemicals and make it addictive.
