s**t, I could write a short story based on the year where I had no car and had to walk to work. The days were uneventful, but if I added some ninjas and dinosaurs to spice things up, it would still be "based" on that year where I had no car and had to walk to work.

I'm surprised they aren't attacking the even more loose term "inspired by", which opens a whole nother can of worms.

Braveheart was "inspired" in the fact the yes, there was a big Willy Wallace and yes, he did kill englishmen who eventually had him executed. As far as that goes it was true. Some movies are more accurately labeled a dramatization of a real story.

What makes these stand out is the huge difference in the real story versus the actual one.

Differences so vast that they are no longer even close to be true, that they are hit with successful lawsuits.

It was then I realized that movies based on true stories were as much fiction as any others, my hatred for the English went down a few notches (thank you braveheart and the patriot).

Seriously though it turns out that Chris Gardner of The Pursuit of Happyness fame was actually a wife beating (well accused of), drug dealing, drug using, child abandoning a*****e.
