I'm not sure I agree that he should be charged as an adult. I mean, WTF was the father thinking when he gave his 11 year old son a shotgun as a Christmas gift? Okay, they are a gun toting family and it was a tradition or whatever, but isn't the power of suggestion pretty deep on a kid this age? It was probably already obvious that the kid was jealous of the other kids and the pregnant girlfriend, and a new baby would distract him even more.

I just don't know. I do know that, under any circumstances, I would not give a child this age a shotgun as a gift.

Prosecutors said Jordan Brown covered a 20-bore shotgun, a Christmas present from his father, with a blanket and shot Kenzie Houk in the head before running out of the family's home to catch the school bus.
As grim and serious this matter is, I have to admit the whole "... to catch the school bus" kind of made me laugh.

I can understand getting it for him as a gift, but he should not have had access to it without his father there. Or even able to touch the gun without his father.
