 Baseball's Mystery Mud
Baseball's Mystery Mud
Before every major league baseball game, rules require that the pristine white game balls be smeared with mud. And not just any mud. Since 1938, professional baseball teams have used "Lena Blackburne Baseball Rubbing Mud", made from a secret concoction that originates in a New Jersey swamp, harvested six times a year from two holes, the location of which remains a mystery. picked by bingo 8 months ago

Sorry. You need lots of training to rub mud onto baseballs. I'm a professional mud rubber, and I'll be spending a weekend at an advanced mud rubbing training camp in a couple of weeks.

Seriously, I'm a baseball umpire. At my level, we don't even use mud, the junior umpire (usually me) just scrubs the balls for a few minutes to take the shine off.
