Pennsylvania Pie Fight: State Cracks Down on Baked Goods
Pennsylvania Pie Fight: State Cracks Down on Baked Goods
On the first Friday of Lent, an elderly female parishioner of St. Cecilia Catholic Church began unwrapping pies at the church. That's when the trouble started.

"Piegate"

What an awful name. Just adding "-gate" to a word shouldn't mark it as some kind of scandal. It's not like Watergate was a scandal about water. It was just the name of the hotel. Stupid!

Be clever and call the scandal something else. Pie Police would have been better; at least, not so ridiculous.

Mr. Chirdon says the pie episode has shed light on an often-overlooked aspect of food safety. "I've gotten a lot of letters from churches that are tattletaling on churches down the street that aren't licensed and don't meet standards for food service."
Nice Christians.

Actually, even though I am a Christian, I believe that churches should be held to the foodservice standards if they are going to sell food. There are reasons those standards exist. If the food is free then it can't really be legally enforced (I don't think) but it certainly could still be observed. What's wrong with ensuring everything is done properly?

I wonder who's financially liable should one of those pies get anyone sick?

And I suspect that the 'good' Christian response would be to NOTIFY YOUR NEIGHBOR so they have the chance to remedy their situation, rather than just turning them in to the cops.

Oh wait, I'm not Christian. So...that's just what I would do.

I agree with you, if they don't change this law (and it looks like they will) they should be held accountable to the law, it was put in place for a reason.

My remark was specific to the paragraph cited, the churches ratting out other churches that is so backstabbing. Can't be a Christian nation because even the Christians are backstabbing other Christians. Do they score points with God this way? Shouldn't one church go help another church, isn't that the tenet of Christianity? If not, what's the point? And why do we expect the Muslim sects to co-exist but not the Christian ones?

I agree, there's some backbiting and stupidity here. But um...

American Christians aren't shooting/blowing up each other. So that is much closer to real co-existence.

This is just mild gossipy crap; the rest of the time qualifies as co-existence.

Maybe this is how it starts (or re-starts, since there's a long and storied history of the Christian sects fighting each other), it all starts because of PIE.

Ahh...the ol' pie is evil theology. I'm sure there are some that would disagree...but then find a theological stand that 100% agree with...so you might have something there.
