I would call this post of the month. Extremely interesting. Great find, muppet.

[politico] I really think anyone in a position to rule on whether something is torture should try it first, especially since waterboarding is supposed to be ultimately harmless. If I were in such a position, I'd totally do it, because that would be bad ass [/politico].

A procedure is not torture if, when practiced on you, can not be used to make you admit it was torture.

Another post, including an article and video by another journalist, is here, if anyone would like to see another perspective (although not really a different one- this man's results were pretty much the same).

A) why would that be (the fact bit)?

B) so you are suggesting the torture was actually a government to breed/clone superterrorists by harvesting terrorist sperm?!

Male victims of asphyxiation often, but not always, get erections at the point of death. Ejaculation is rare but not unheard of. The practice of auto-erotic asphyxiation involves masturbation as well as (normally) strangulation.

That's why the stress the 42 virgins thing - get them in the mood and all hot and bothered by the thought of their impending demise.

No, I get that, my question was, biologically, why? What would be the purpose? One last chance to reproduce before you go? Or is it just something involving stress to the body and a reaction?

It's probably more of a side effect than something with a purpose.

The exact mechanism is not known (the ethics of researching something like this are just such a minefield) but most thinking is that the euphoria that comes from oxygen deprivation, itself an effect of depressed inhibitions, enhances pleasure in general.

And they went fairly easy on him. It wasn't steady like the guy in this video. And I'm sure not like they did to the actual prisoners.

Maybe Bush and Cheney should volunteer to have it done to them since they think it's such a nifty idea.
