With grim predictability there is a comment on the article calling this a waste of time when there is still work to be done on cancer.

I think that's the dumbest appearance of this sentiment I have ever seen.

Asking an agriculturist in a greenhouse in Holland to hang up his trowel and watering can to focus his efforts on a cure for cancer (presumably being allowed first to gain the necessary qualifications to work in that field) seems like a pretty big ask to me.
