Neighbors file suit against family - for having an autistic child
Neighbors file suit against family - for having an autistic child
The family of young Spencer is circling the wagons to defend themselves against the litigious attacks of their neighbors. Four year old Spencer is autistic, and ignorance of his condition is triggering civil action in his San Diego community. Read to the end for a breath of sanity from the courts. picked by equinox 7 months ago

I don't really see how they tied the allegations to autism; at best I see something regarding the dad fighting with another father. It sounds mostly like a group of nasty neighbors. Sad.

I think their Facebook or myspace sites should be bombed.

What ignorant idiots. Wow. Sounds like that family should move, just to get away from those people. I'm glad the courts did what was right.

« : In court papers, Sarah Fisher wrote that, "Gary Trussle is a very violent, unstable and unpredictable man." Daniele Harway said, "He looked to be on drugs." And Kelly Plaster added, "I'm concerned that Gary or his son will gain access to Gary's firearms.".
Sounds to me like hens with nothing better to do. Reminiscent of the gaggle of hens from Edward Scissorhands.

Atleast they learned now that their neighbors are a bunch of douchebags instead of later when they might take their nonsence personal.

Seems like it all stems from Sarah Fisher and that she got the others riled up. The fact that they ran in the house shows me they are not really all for this.

Sarah is an ignorant nut.

Serves them right. In fact they should pay more for their attempt to ruin the Trussle's lives. How ignorant can they get?It is sad enough that young Spencer is autistic. Why pick on him and his family for a condition they did not choose to bring upon themselves? Those insensitive idiots ought to be ashamed of themselves.

I read through the article three times, and this was the only conclusion I could come up with. One person hate-mongering for no apparent reason; I bet she didn't even care about the autism.

I can't believe people can be so stupid. Seriously. I thought I had crappy neighbors.

I'm really hoping there's more to the story than is reported.

If not, these neighbours sound like complete douche-nozzles.

There is always more to the story. Leave out the boring, tedious, and possibly more important aspects that make it a non-story, and you have a headline.

With the facts that are brought out by the story, Mrs. Fisher is the instigator who is probably the epitome of the nosy neighbor (i.e. Mrs. Kravitz) of the cul-de-sac. They need to understand that there are consequences to their actions. Maybe if they tried to understand what autism is and how wonderful these children really are this might have never happened.

The whole firearm issue really got me. It's not like this guy had an arsenal in his basement or something, it was one gun...and apparently only there because of his job. Any 4 year old in a house with a gun "might" get a hold of the gun, autistic or not that is dangerous, but this father sounded very responsible with it.

Imply that they are of questionable parentage and that they should engage in intimate physical relationships with their fists?

I have a wonderful solution for the three ignorant hens who have problems living next to an autistic child: they can raise money to get rid of their problem forever by purchasing Spencer's family a brand new house in a more tolerant neighborhood.

Wish the judge had thought of that.

The one thing the "neighbors" misunderstood, it was not the media that took this public, but themselves. That's what civil lawsuits do - involve the public in your disputes.

When I full-screened the video coverage and watched their smug "no comment" faces, as if the very merit of their protests should serve to validate them, and that somehow the media was to blame for intervening - I knew clearly who was the sour grapes on this cul-de-sac.

How amusing they have nothing to say now, they had every chance to represent their alternate viewpoint to the media, since they felt strongly enough to involve the courts, child protective services and the man's employer. Only when the press shows up they suddenly become passive? Uh-huh. Passive-aggressive bullies that is - with nothing more substantive than whiny finger-pointing. They deserve all the humiliation this heaps on their heads. No matter whether it was about autism or just plain nastiness.

Ignoramous people!!!!

My neighbors that live behind me have an autistic son. Before they fenced in their backyard, they asked that we keep an eye out and if we saw Griffin ever outside without an adult, to find them. He tends to wander off. I could never in my life imagine complaining about that sweet dear little boy.
