Prosecutors who won misdemeanor convictions against Lori Drew last year have asked the judge to imprison her for the maximum sentence of three years. They rejected a recommendation from probation officers that Drew be given only probation and a $5,000 fine.

Wow I never heard about this story, must have missed it.

It's a clear case of law vs. morality.

Sometimes someone does something that we think is so wrong (morally) that there must be a way to 'punish' them. But if there's no law that's technically broken, they can't be convicted by a jury. It's cruel, but it's the truth.

I think that's where the disagreement is coming in.

Personally I would like to see her realise and suffer consequences of her actions, but it should have remorse as a goal, and not imprisonment for the sake of imprisonment.
