Eh, kid got fair warning. He signed their lifestyle agreement. Sorry, no protections because he decided to attend a private school.

The only sore spot is that the principal signed saying he agreed the kid could go...then worked to make going a hellish (forgive the pun) experience for him. If he felt that strongly, don't sign the paper, cut the problem off at the knees. Duh.

I agree with lynxears. Private school. You agree to follow their rules when you attend the school - or at least when your parents send you the school.

If you don't like it, go to a public school.

Whining about it like he feels that he is entitled to do as he pleases just makes him look like a jerk.

What kind of prude makes such a rule in the first place?

Rhetorical...

I'd take the suspension in favor of living life and experiencing new things, imo...

And isn't prom on a Saturday, anyways? That would be considered personal time... not school time... Private School rules are only enforceable when the children are ACTUALLY IN THE SCHOOL GROUNDS...

At least it was so when I went to private school...

What a way to trust your students to make the right decisions when the time comes...

*facepalm*

The handbook for the 84-student Christian school says rock music "is part of the counterculture which seeks to implant seeds of rebellion in young people's hearts and minds."

Somehow I think you wouldn't have joined the school in the first place.

Actually the rules are enforceable as agreed to by the children and the parents.

A school ran by a "church" which thinks holding hands is a deadly sin probably doesn't place "trust" high on their list of virtues.

Also I would love to see how they define "rock music".

This pisses me off, schools (even stuck-up private ones) should not have the right to enforce things that happen completely outside of the jurisdiction of the school. We are talking about this kid's private life here, it has nothing to do with his performance at this f**ked up school of his. This whole situation is a perfect example of why I absolutely despise organized religion.

"In life, we constantly make decisions whether we are going to please self or please God. (Frost) chose one path, and the school committee chose the other," England said.
GAK! I despise it when people conspire among themselves to decide what pleases God. It is Unknown - we do our best - but I don't believe God voted on that school committee. Does he send notarized email perhaps?

Not voluntarily, no...

Actually the rules are enforceable as agreed to by the children and the parents.
I think not... no one ever pointed a gun to my and my parents' head to attend mass every Sunday. All they really wanted was my father's money...

Agreed...

I would agree with you EXCEPT attendence at this school was incumbent upon signing of a lifestyle agreement. Private schools are businesses, not charities. They can do what they want.
Had he NOT signed an agreement pertaining to life in general (as some businesses require and enforce for their employees... mine does, to an extent), then it would be stupid they were fussing.
But he did. It's part of the agreement to get in. It's a broken contract.

If the principal signed the form, the school has no right to complain. Even if you are a private school, you shouldn't be able to just sign something and then do the opposite.

What sort of demented business wants control of their incumbents lifestyle?

Don't answer that... Rhetorical, again...

I HATE organized religion... Should actually change its name from organized religion to control by fear, now give us your money institution

I ignore your rhetorics!

Those that have a public image they want to protect.

Say you get caught forging an image; would you get many repeat customers? Things like that, even if you do them on your 'free' time.

I don't really see how these people can enforce such rules on their incumbents when they are a bunch of hypocrites...

They are just good at hiding it for the sake of 'their good image'...

One by one they fall...

The pedophiles that advocate for child safety
The gay basher that has male lovers
The faithful husband who has a mistress
The trusted chairman of the church's treasury who embezzles

I won't be surprised if they were all baptist... Don't you know? It's always the stiff collared ones you have to worry about...

They make the news because it's a rarity, not because it's what all baptists are.
