Women Rejoice - Dell Save You From The Fear Of Computers
Women Rejoice - Dell Save You From The Fear Of Computers
Perhaps Dell have a very shrewd marketing technique here. Perhaps it's patronising as all hell. Whichever, they've launched a version of their sales site aimed specifically at women called Della.

Della. See what they did? picked by pocksucket 7 months ago

That's quite a daring move...

I can see how this is a good idea, because for some reason websites for computers and stuff are very manly. So 'branding' a website for women makes sense.

But I can see how this might backfire a bit. By taking this approach, they are opening themselves up for criticism. Generalising the use of computers by women for "recipes" and "health tracking" can be perceived very negatively by feminists.

I'd be interested to hear what lynxears has to say about this.

Advertising agencies and Men: They'll never understand women. Don't know what's so difficult to understand. ;)

I think I have yet another reason to not buy Dell.

It's not quite as blunt as the article stated...
But it's still INCREDIBLY condescending and backwards.
It's times like this I wish I could downvote businesses...

Maybe they feel like they left women out when they said "Dude get a dell" and now they're overcompensating....this would be much more appropriate if it was tissue boxes for men....I can't take all the flowers and butterflys its just too threatening to my manlyness.

I, for one, do not cruise recipe sites and I've NEVER looked up any health tracking.

(also not a feminist)

Exactly. I think is some marketing going seriously wrong. Especially since it's a website. The only people that might be all warm and tingly inside by this stragety are the stereotype stay-at-home and cook-for-the husband types that don't do anything else, and (if Dell has the right info) aren't using a computer anyways...

Hold on, now. Let's not be too harsh. I, for one, had no idea I could use my computer to look up recipes on the internet and track my calorie intake! Instead, I've been using it for a paperweight. Occasionally, I let my hamster play on it. But now I can truly live my life to the fullest. Thank you, Dell!

You don't believe in equal rights for women?

Aww. Here, you can have the vote back. I didn't get to use it yet anyway.

It's ok. A lot of people believe in the same general things feminists believe in but have been conditioned to think "feminist" is a dirty word.

Kinda sad.

Ok, first of all, believing in equal rights for women is not the same as being a feminist.

Second, I am neither conditioned, nor sad.

I would apologize, but none of the phrases that are coming to mind would come across the way I intended.
So.
I didn't intend you to interpret that the way you did, but I see your interpretation.

No. That's exactly what feminism is. Yes, it's associated with a political movement that has tonnes of other connotations, but it's all based around equal rights.

I suppose I have a thing against people who want equal rights but hate "feminism," because how can we work towards equal rights if we're not working together, kind of thing. But if you say you're not a feminist, I'm not going to tell you that you are one. Obv that's up to you.
