My hope is that Youtube retaliates. I really don't like the idea of 'Something bad happened so I'm gonna sue you for millions' but these kids need to be taught a lesson.

Real world, real consequences.

I agree... but at the same time, I feel no sympathy for any of the companies/people/organizations they pick on.

They could go after each youtube account. But thats about it.

I doubt anyone gave enough information on their accounts, though.

20 hours of video uploaded to YouTube every minute?

There's no way they can find all of the smut.

I would assume the only "hacking" that took place here was them using an anonymous ip to upload the videos, which would make it pretty much impossible for youtube to retaliate.

I use the term hacking very loosely here.

4chan is run by a server. That server has an owner, has an internet subscription, has advertising revenue.

Could you get the users? Probably not. You could certainly shut down the place where they meet though. That alone would make them think twice about attempting this vulgar stunt on other sites.

What would happen if suddenly 4Chan targetted plime? 'Uploading thousands of STORIES a day' which were actually porn sites? We would never be able to keep on top of the downvotes.

This kind of prank needs immediate and long reching consequences. Think of it as 'cyberterrorism' if that helps the government deal with it better.

I actually was just on eBaum's and read about it as it was happening. Accounts were registered through a 5-minute email address. Videos were then uploaded and set to "private," which prevents the flagging process. On a specific day, everyone would set them to public in a coordinated effort.

This is why we can't have nice things.

I think you'd struggle to find any legal basis to do this.

If they had met in a physical location such as a bar or library then shutting the premises down would be immediately decried as a draconian measure.
