I went to a debt counselor a few years ago who gave me great advice for handling my finances. The main thing I took away from it is that I was trying to pay down my credit cards too quickly, making it impossible for me to save any money. I go see her once a year to stay on track. The company she works for was part of Consumer Credit Counseling Services. Although they do charge a small fee ($25), they are not a company that gets rich off 'refinancing' your debt and ruining your credit. I highly recommend contacting them if you need help.
