The widow of a Catholic man beaten to death by a sectarian mob in Northern Ireland has appealed for no retaliation for his murder.

He was targeted by a gang of up to 40 men who entered a mainly Catholic housing estate after football matches involving Rangers and Celtic.

A man in custody shot a small-town police chief to death Wednesday from the back seat of the chief's cruiser in Eastern Kentucky, a county official said.
