She did nothing wrong, but still I'm curious - why did she buy the lottery tickets and not check them? And why did she keep old lottery tickets for 10 months.

On a side note, she'd have lost it if she were here.

Unclaimed prizes expire after 3 months in the UK.

That was my question too.
Odd she didn't check them and even odder she kept them.
Glad she did :D

Here you have 18 months to claim.

My dad buys lottery tickets and never checks them. He's been known to buy multiple tickets for the same drawing, with the same numbers. He keeps them in an envelope for several months and then asks me to help him check them online. It doesn't make sense, especially buying the same numbers for the same drawing (because he doesn't do that by accident), but I've stopped trying to rationalize the stuff my dad does.

Does he think that every ticket with winning numbers will each get him the full prize amount?

Edit: Hmm.. Kevertje pointed out the error in my math.

The tickets were a gift from her father.

Best. Present. Ever.

Actually it does make sense. If there's a 15million pot and there are 3 winning tickets, each ticket gets 5 million.

If 2 of those tickets are yours...

I don't keep mine for months, but I do sometimes keep Friday's ticket over the weekend...prolong the dream ;-)
Nice story. Good intentions, and the tides of fate backing her up.
