Germany, the land of Goethe, Thomas Mann and Beethoven, has an unlikely pop culture hero: Donald Duck. Just as the French are obsessed with Jerry Lewis, the Germans see a richness and complexity to the Disney comic that isn’t always immediately evident to people in the cartoon duck’s homeland.

This is pretty awesome, I'm suprised that Disney hasn't found some way to stop the Germans from inserting such thought provoking, controversial ideas into their material.

To some extent, that's how Disney stuff is in Finland too - the Donald Duck weekly comics are the biggest thing. I think they're also (re) written pretty well.
