Obama says Iran's energy concerns legitimate

Yes, indeed. Iran might be an ass, but it does have a point. If they go ahead and still go on to make a nuke, consider their ass fried.

Why does everyone assume that Iran is making a nuke ? I certainly do not trust the previous administration, considering their constant lies about everything concerning Iraq, why would I see and credence in their claim Iran is making a nuke ? Obama seems at least to wait and see (and I bet he is watching VERY closely on what Iran is actually doing).

If Pres. Obama feels it's okay for Iran to build nuclear plants... for energy...
why then is it not okay for us to?

I don't know how I feel about this. I do believe in all nations to have national sovereignty...But Iran? Geez.

I support giving Iran the benefit of the doubt.

I find it so ironic that the US, who is sitting on a huge arsenal of nuclear weapons, freaks out if anyone else starts building them. Whoa, kids, don't be so surprised if another country seeks the same sort of weapons, eh?

<pulls out soapbox>

Obama's decision to can the Yucca Mountain Repository does not correlate to a discouragement of nuclear power. Yucca Mountain was not exactly the best place to place a nuclear waste repository, geologically speaking, so putting the kaibosh on YM doesn't mean the kaibosh is on nuclear power as well.

Unfortunately for North America, disinformation regarding nuclear power is rampant, no small thanks to environmentalist groups who exploit the general public's ignorance of the subject as a perfect means of pushing their own anti-nuclear agenda.

As a result, any politician will have to battle this disinformation as well as the whole NIMBY factor when proposing more nuclear power plants. Politicians being as they are, a controversial stance might rob them of their support, which is why so many really don't take a stance on it at all.

The easiest way for Americans to encourage more nuclear power in their nation is to educate themselves and others on the pros and cons of it and turn the debate about nuclear power into one of practicality instead of one about emotion. Then, I'm confident Obama, or any clone drone politician who may replace him, would be more inclined to support or oppose nuclear power for sound reasons.

Why?

Also, the US is not the only country against nuclear proliferation, there are many others just as adamant about it, including your own...I'm not sure it's even a tenable position but still.
