How cool! I learned alot from this article. I had no idea Monkfish was the deep sea angler fish. Or that farmed fish are not always great, or things I would buy can be endangered even.

Useful information but startling that it doesn't mention cod.

Cod overfishing is probably the most serious problem at the moment.

Plus there is nothing wrong with wild Scottish Salmon, although if they serve that in America, it probably won't be fresh :P

I've had sushi eel before. (I'm not sure if it was freshwater or not)
I don't recommend it. Its sorta like how I would expect eating a slug to be like.

this list from greenpeace also mentions some others, like tuna, cod, halibut, shrimp.

for me, all fish are friends (not food), but it's a start to leave endangered species alone and stop supporting fishing methods that destroy the environment.

When I was at the aquarium last month they actually had index cards that would tell you what fish were safe to eat by region. E.G. - On the west coast Fish A is caught from clean ocean water where on the east coast they are caught from dirty scummy river mouths. So if you grab the east coast card that fish would be a recommended no while the west coast one would be fine. The cards also included the endangered fish, farmed fish, and even farmed fish that were not harmful to the environment (don't require dye pellets etc).

I am amazed that tuna didn't make this list. Tuna might be gone as soon as 3 or 5 years!

Once more, zero consumer awareness or responsibility means this probably will happen.

No matter what your restaurant server says about the farming practices, if they don't simply say "It's wild Alaskan," don't order it.
Don't believe this!! Wild BC Salmon is just as good ;D

Yes, Wild B.C. Salmon can be excellent, but it depends on the species and when it was caught. Some of the best salmon I have ever had was fresh and caught in the wild in B.C.
