Burger King worker refuses to cut burger for one-armed customer
You can have it your way, but you can’t halve it your way — at least not at the Burger King on Cape Coral Parkway. picked by kakana 6 months ago

What a*****es. They will pay a hefty price I bet. The bad PR will cost them quite a bit.

I would think that there is a American-with-disabilities violation here. This means he could receive a nice chunk of change.

It's probably a liability issue with minor employees. That's my guess.

They probably don't even have knives. I don't think it's just a liability isue with minors, it's a liability issue about someone cutting themselves (or even an employee going postal)

Maybe because the workers there don't wear gloves, and they don't want to risk a lawsuit if someone gets sick from the food? The article did mention someone washing their hands before they could handle the customer's burger.

Agreed, but Burger King or not, they're in the service industry. If a disabled man asks you to help him out, you help him out.

This guy should just get fired.

I don't think the customer should get any money though, because it's just too easy to sue nowadays and imagine if suddenly all disabled people try to get money by asking BK to cut their burgers or whatever, that will just escalate things.

Other than firing the guy, I totally agree with you. At the risk of sounding cold, I did wonder if this was a set-up/con on the customer's part - not only a publicity ploy but a way to make some easy money with a lawsuit (after all, he's been disabled since 1977 and has certainly adapted to his disability to more than a small degree in that time). That said, if it wasn't against some quirky BK policy, the employee should have helped him out. Beyond that, common sense should always prevail.
