Dr Chris MacLeod, from Cardiff University, said the Earth's crust appeared to be completely missing in an area thousands of kilometres across. That is insane! The neatest thing I've read in a while, thanks for the post, Browntrout!

If it really is a hole, that has change our understanding of plate tectonics - it's still a baby theory, as it only came into acceptance in the early 70's.

[wonder how the geochemists feel about seawater meeting the mantle...]
