NYT and Wikipedia May Have Helped Saved A Man's Life
New York Times reporter David Rohde was being held hostage by the Taliban. The New York Times and Wikipedia worked together to not only refrain from publishing the news but actively censored others from posting the story. They did this to prevent a public outcry which would have raised his value to his kidnappers. picked by 2manyusernames 5 months ago

I would commend them for this except they are very inconsistent in their policy.

Mr Rhodes, a reporter for the NYT was able to have his story hushed up in an effort to improve his chances of survival - or maybe to make his ransom cheaper.

The New York Times has previously published many stories about kidnapped victims with no concern for their safety.

They have posted many stories about the military, CIA, and others that they were requested to keep out of the paper for fear of endangering the lives of those people.

They don't give a damn about someone else being murdered because of their reporting, but if one of their own might made less costly to free then all of a sudden they feel the need to respect a man's life over their desire to publish news??

(I'm not saying his plight should have been reported by the nyt. I'm just saying that others they reported on shouldn't have been)
