I don't really see why the eating is the big part of this story. We eat animals that are considered to be pets in some parts of the world as well and for us this is completely normal.

What really angers me though is the way these cats were treated. First they were taken away from their personnel (cat's don't have owners ;)), then put in cages that were too small and not looked after properly.

This is the reason these people should be brought up on animal cruelty charges.

Consider the source. The activists in question are playing up the xenophobic omfg-they-eat-dogs-too-don't-they aspect to increase emotional response. It's a cheap way to get the people on your side quicker.

If it's just as bad, the people involved should also be charged with animal cruelty. A couple of years ago, there was a huge outcry here when an animal rights group used a hidden camera to film at a cattle market. The abuse those animals had to endure was horrifying.

Still I think there are ways to raise, transport and butcher cattle without torturing them.
