news report here said some died due to faulty darts - bungling forest guards. anyway it is a lost cause - number of people in India/ population growth ... can expect a lot more animals to disappear. and the church in some places preaches 'have more kids' cause new life are an image of God/ sign of creation. Muslims want more kids to over take the Hindus, some Hindus want more kids to keep the Muslims in check .... :(

Desperate need for MUCH MORE education and tuff taxes for over 2 kids

Yeah, I looked at about 6 or 7 sources for this story, trying to find the most informative. This one hopefully meets that brief. There did seem to be a lot of variance in cause and finger pointing with some trying to gain political advantage (an act almost as low as poaching in this case).

I thought this seemed the most informed, but of course an article written in Ireland about India can probably be assumed to have some inaccuracies.

What's your feeling as our Indian Correspondent? Poachers or Politicians?

poachers for the most part. but its the govt that allows them a free run. i have gone to Bandipur - 100km away from Bangalore. There the wardens told us they can do more to protect if they were given a free hand. villagers are encroaching in to the forests, clearing trees, politicians are not driving them out as they are the vote givers.

so less land too.
