We actually only ever had second hand TV's and other furniture from relatives untill I was highschool age. Maybe that's why we didn't need government help though. My dad knew what was worth spending the money on.I've never had cable and I just recently got my first bed sheets. They don't fit, so I duct taped them to my mattress.

I'm disabled, and I manage to work (a crappy job, but still) so my sympathy is somewhat limited. There's almost always SOMETHING you can do. I have a couple of perfectly capable cousins who are on welfare because they think working is somehow beneath them.
