Very similar situation in a honey bee hive. They kick the males out once the queen has mated.

I dunno...I've seen an army of ants take 20 minutes to take a hunk of bread up a wall to an opening that was WAY too small for the hunk of bread.

Now stating that humans waste time more than ants...that's another story...
