Princess cruise ship impales fin whale, docks at Vancouver port
Princess cruise ship impales fin whale, docks at Vancouver port
The whale, about 20 metres long, was wrapped around the bow of the ship Saturday in full view of tourists at Canada Place, many snapping pictures of the disturbing sight. picked by kakana 4 months ago

Still not getting the "impaled" part of the story.

It could have been dead before it was lodged on the bulbous bow, a prong on the front of the ship used to streamline and stabilize ships, she said.
But how does "lodged on the bulbous bow" equal "impaled?" I've seen a lot of bows, but maybe someone else can explain how this is an "impalement," rather than a "collision?"

Because it sounds more awesome to say impaled. That thing must have been dead before they hit it, I think any self-respecting whale would hear that ship coming from miles away and move.

Also,

"These big, fast vessels are always a danger to whales," Watson said. "They usually strike the animal and it is swept aside or it sinks to the bottom."

Oh really? I don't typically float around in the ocean and wait to see whales get hit by ships, but this guy must, or else he's talking out of his ass.

paul watson is an activist and is the captain of the sea shepards. they run around the ocean in a boat and harass japanese whalers. he also has a show called whale wars documenting it. (just my opinion, but i think he's an incompetent nutcase.)
