2007 Inductees: The Rock Hall's Bias And Hatred
2007 Inductees: The Rock Hall's Bias And Hatred
I have no real issues with this year’s inductees. They each have merit, certainly some more than others. But I am convinced that those who vote are deeply biased against certain genres. They HATE new wave, punk, rap, prog rock and metal. Dorks. picked by dmdo1016 3 years ago

Wow. I would have assumed that the Cure would have been in there forever ago.

I was actually shocked by the number of omissions, which really does show how biased the voting committee is.

Yeah there's a real narrow definition of rock (and of "good") going on there, but rock is hard to define.

For example, I think rap is different from rock to the same degree jazz is, and probably shouldn't be included. The lack of good punk bands is scandalous, though, considering how the late 70's/early 80's punkers heavily influenced the last 15 years of more mainstream rock.

I'm just happy R.E.M. are finally in - they're pretty mainstream now, but they started out as a college/underground band. Maybe in another 25 years, when the current people who are doing the selecting are gone, we'll get some more good bands in.
