Why Does Coke From a Glass Bottle Taste Different?
Why Does Coke From a Glass Bottle Taste Different?
It doesn’t. That’s what Coca-Cola’s spokespeople say, anyway. “The great taste of Coca-Cola is the same regardless of the package it comes in,” they insist. picked by kakana 4 months ago

Because it uses sugar instead of corn syrup.

They use corn syrup in the states, and sugar where sugar cane is plentiful and cheap...like Mexico!

I think it tastes different because it's colder.

I think it tastes different because glass doesn't yield the plastic or aluminum taste that cans or bottles do. Just my opinion...

Try this sometime. Take a bottled and plastic bottled, and canned Coke. Have a friend blindfold you and pour all three into different glasses. When you can tell which one came from which container (i.e. the Tin taste/plastic taste) let me know.

Glass bottled coke uses corn syrup as well, at least in the US. You can't get Coke made with cane sugar in the US these days, no matter what.

It tastes different because plastic seeps residue into drinks. All plastic bottled drinks are like this (barring those that use a higher quality plastic). Glass does not seep any residue into the drink, which makes it taste "purer", and is also why I prefer glass over plastic any day.

Also, glass bottled coke has a smaller amount, which you drink quicker. By the time you get to the bottom of a plastic bottle, so much spit has been exchanged in the drink that it's broken down most of the sugar, which means it won't be as sweet anymore.

The actual bottle itself is a big part of the experience. I never pour bottled coke it into a glass, what a waste.

As a coke drinker, I can honestly tell you that in a blind taste test I was able to decipher the store bought coke to the real thing. Being able to taste the difference between bottled, plastic, and canned....hmmmm sounds like an interesting challenge! Aside from all that, the best coke is fountain coke. And some places it is better than others. Maybe the machine is cleaner...or dirtier! Whatever the reason, I like fountain coke the best.

That is because fountain coke (which is amazing, I'll give you that) is mixed on-site. They add the water and the syrup to separate containers inside the machine, and it mixes them as it pours it. If the proportions aren't correct, then things will taste different. Sometimes it's just right, sometimes too much syrup, though more often than not, they're low on syrup and it is too watery (the carbonation makes it slightly bitter too, I think).

I think it has something to do with the texture of the bottle as opposed to the texture of the bubbles. I don't know about anyone else, but coke out of a glass bottle has always been the most fresh to me, perhaps it is the best for keeping the drink from going flat?

you can get coke made with cane sugar in the US. Maybe it's cuz we're close to Mexico here? dunno. I got it at Price club once. It's more expensive. I can't remember how much. We got a case of bottles for around $15? But it is Deee-licious. Even warm. Boo for corn syrup.
