I know the IT guys get a lot of crap from people. Being tech support is good, but you have to deal with a lot of stupidity from users asking for help along with it (I don't mean unintentional ignorance, but actual stupidity, not unlike the points in this link). Thankfully it's not my full time job. I always try to be as nice as I can to the IT guys at my work, and never hesitate to say "thank you". I don't know how much they appreciate it, but a little kindness can go a long way.

I've always made a point of making friends with the IT guys at work. At one time, I was kind of their peer. They would make a point of stopping by my office to say hi whenever they were in the area. Sometimes, even when they weren't.

I have always thanked them for whatever they do. All of my interaction now with IT is over the phone. I'm amazed at what they can accomplish with remote support.

I admire the massive amounts of patience that these guys need. I'm an IT person myself, but I don't work in IT. I just don't have the patience to answer people's stupid questions haha.

But at least I only bother them when something real is wrong, so it's ok, they like me. Also because the people in my immediate vicinity ask me before they call IT, so I'm like a buffer for them.

As a Network/System Admin, this list always make me laugh, mostly because it's so true.

We do like to hear "Thank you". It's something we don't hear very often.

Not only do they appreciate it, but they remember it. Guess who is getting the fastest support time from the IT guys? It's not the guy who yelled and blamed them for his problems. He's LOW on the priority list. Heck, he could wait a day or two for his problems if you call and say your computer might be slow.

It's like tipping a waiter at the start of a meal. Guaranteed good service. :)
