August is "Ban Major Record Labels Month"
In the past decade, have you downloaded music from a peer-to-peer service like LimeWire? Or shared files on the original Napster? Once? Twice? Lots? If so, you might want to hire a good lawyer, or consider moving to another country. Lately, major record labels—specifically, the "Big Four" (EMI, Universal Music Group, Sony Music Entertainment, Warner Music Group, and their many subsidiaries)—have been looking for folks like you.

*Glad most of the music I buy is not associated with those companies.* picked by sidran32 4 months ago

I don't think they need any help being banned... We live in an age of digital piracy after all.

What gets me in all this is that the record label makes it sound like something's changed. When I was a kid back in the 70's I didn't buy albums either. I taped them off of the radio. And yes, I "dubbed" them for friends as well including copying my freind's cassettes if they bought them. Hell...anybody remember the special "high speeed" recorders that played you music at chipmunks speed to copy twice as fast?

The only thing that is different is we've got MORE music out there and we're more efficient at copying it. Money wise kids these days are spending a LOT more money on downloads than I ever did when I was a kid..and that includes adjusting for inflation.

The only thing different here is the artists and record labels are greedier!
