Priest Drops Silent Bombshell During Mass
Priest Drops Silent Bombshell During Mass
No, not like that!

As his congregation of deaf Roman Catholics prepared to head home after Mass, the priest indicated that he had something to tell.

Then, using sign language, Father Peter McDonough dropped his bombshell picked by Doggylives 3 months ago

Manchester... So much to answer for.

</smiths>

I don't think this is overly newsworthy outside of it being announced is sign language.

There have been far bigger scandals in the catholic church... really.

People are confessing to him - I've confessed to him - and he's been carrying this big secret. What faith can you have in someone like that when it's not say as I do but do as I say? He's been here for years and should have done this as soon as he knew about the child.
If I read this right, it's okay that the priest had sex, which isn't allowed in his job, but once the priest knew he'd fathered a child he should have quit. Therefore, if the priest had used some kind of prophylactic which, as far as I know, is still frowned upon by the catholic church, then he'd still be worthy of accepting confessions?

James Kenny, 85, of Collyhurst, said: 'This will come as a big shock to everyone. He's let down the Catholic community.
I read this and all I can think of is...

"He admitted to a wrong that he had done by keeping his child a secret. He wants to provide for the child and not lie to everyone. He's let down the Catholic community."

I deeply apologize to Plime Catholics when I say they can go to hell. A man who wants to admit his wrongs and provide for his children should Not be something to be ashamed of.

NEWSFLASH, he's human. So are they. So many years of service to his community, his church, and now they're ashamed that he made a mistake while doing it.

So much for forgiveness.

So much for love thy neighbor.

So much for caring for the children.

He's better off without them.

Keep in mind tho, t, that this is only one man's opinion..I won't hold it against the entire Catholic community. There's far too much generalization and stereotyping in the world already. :( I do agree the main gist of your comments however.

As one Catholic with an opinion, priestly celibacy is a tradition with a little historical background, though it's not really a requirement according to the Bible. We probably could stand to allow priests to marry and it would probably resolve a lot of conflicts some people have if they are called to be a priest but also to raise a family. I know of some who have quit the priesthood to raise families. The thing is though, they still can celebrate mass. They just can't be a priest as profession.
