Best Buy posts mistaken price of $9.99 for a 52" HDTV
But after the error was discovered, they stated that they will not honor any orders that came in with the incorrect price.

At first I was like "Oooo those jerks". But then I thought about it and my opinion on those times when a small time gas station mistakenly had gas listed on their pumps for $0.265 instead of $2.65. I would never take advantage of the gas station in that event, so why should that be different just because it is a huge conglomerate company?

Even though I HATE HATE HATE Worst Buy and will NEVER EVER EVER shop there EVER, I cannot blame them for not honoring these sales. It was a genuine mistake, and it was corrected in a timely fashion.

It actually kind of bugs me that people think they're entitled to a 'great deal' when it's clearly just a mistake. Yeah, sure, try it, maybe it's not a screw up, but come on...Do you REALLY think any company is going to sell a 52" TV for $10? Of course not. So, it's a mistake. They caught it before anything shipped, no harm no foul.

A while back, hubbin found something (had to do with RC trucks or planes, I think) on eBay for a ridiculously low buy it now price, something like 1/5 the expected price. He suspected it was wrong, but figured, what the heck and bought it. The next day, we got an email saying "Wups, new person entered that, price was wrong, do you still want it at $4X?" It happens. People make mistakes. Be an adult about it!!!

Mistakes happen.

I think it's a poor reflection on society that so many people act like vultures when they see one tiny mistake. A little bit more honesty here from everybody would go a long way.

It was such an obvious mistake. If it's too good to be true, it is.

Oddly enough, and not to try and politicize it, or threadjack at all, but my (staunchly-Republican) sister sent me an email about the "Cash-for-Clunkers" thing for the Cheap Jeeps, a few weeks ago, when people were praising it, and I wrote back, saying that not only do I not drive a lot (I work from home, and go less than 1500 miles a year for the last six,) and have no need for a new car for "New Car's Sake," and it just felt like the same kind of blind opportunism on a failed idea.

Ok, I know it's not exactly that, but it felt that way. Perfectly happy with my "clunker," which remains a pretty-good fuel-efficient car for the next few years or so. I'll ride it out until I find a car I actually want.

People complain so much these days, but by law Amazon doesn't have to comply, because it is a clear mistake.

Now, if the TV was priced 999 dollars, that would be different.

Against the law in California! If they post a price, they MUST honor it!

They can change it, but anyone who has proof of the price at the time they purchase it, the price must be honored.

It's to prevent bait and switch. Also to make sure their paste-ups get proofread!

Bait and switch would only apply if the person was out more money because of the change or received something different than they purchased. Otherwise it's just a mistake that was fixed before it went out the door.

If you deposit a $100 check at the MAC machine and forget to add a 00 for the cents does that mean the bank only has to give you a $1? IMO it works both ways. It was CLEARLY a mistake. It wasn't a $1600 TV offered for $1400...it was $10. Nobody with an IQ higher than a stone is going to thinks that's the real price.
