 The New American Dream: Renting
The New American Dream: Renting
'A man is not a whole and complete man," wrote Walt Whitman, "unless he owns a house and the ground it stands on." America's lesser bards sang of "my old Kentucky Home" and "Home Sweet Home," leading no less than that great critic Herbert Hoover to declaim that their ballads "were not written about tenements or apartments…they never sing about a pile of rent receipts." To own a home is to be American. To rent is to be something less. picked by Bornbad 3 months ago

Funny this should be in the news now....

Here in L.A., it's cheaper to purchase a house than to rent one!

A nice $300K house, at 5% with $10K down supposedly costs $1600 a month. Same house rents for $1700 - $2500.

It's also easier to find a house for sale than one for rent right now, although the market is a LOT easier than a few years ago. My friend looked for a house in an ok area that would take dogs and cats for $2K a month. The search took nearly 6 MONTHS!!! Her last move took just a few weeks, and the house is larger and cheaper than the one she's leaving. Same neighborhood....
