Back on topic, is this, do you suppose, some sort of PR reaction to the Alton Towers man-wax story, do you suppose?

It's actually in Rapper's Delight, from '79, but there's a few other people who claimed to have coined the phrase earlier. It was a popular call out in hip hop for a while, probably before Sugar Hill Gang.

The Sugar Hill Gang urged us to party hardy like we just didn't care. This was with our hands in a elevated position, sure, but the hardiness of the party was what they implored us not to care about.
