Very good read. I recently bought Recording the Beatles, a huge, exhaustively-researched book about the technical aspects of EMI's studios, and the hold-ups/innovations that influenced their recording life. It's an enormous, heavy, heavy book that actually hurts to hold in your lap for more than 5 minutes. It's not even a coffee-table book -- It needs its own lectern, really.

But, as studio-geeky as it is, (which is fantastically-detailed) it goes into some of the technical reasons why some decisions were made, which affected their creative process.

I'm not shilling for them, it's $100.00 American, and is only really valuable for intense recording geeks like myself, but much of what the article suggests about their differences at the end ring true in it as well.

Shame they ended so bitterly, but considering the nature of Beatlemania, I would have been amazed if no one developed a god complex.
