Jesus of Siberia: The Russian ex-traffic policeman who claims he is the son of God
Jesus of Siberia: The Russian ex-traffic policeman who claims he is the son of God
The beard and long hair are both present and correct.

And with his flowing linen robes and beatific smile he certainly does a fine impression of a holy man.

But to his believers in this remote corner of Siberia, Sergei Torop, a former traffic policeman, is the literal reincarnation of none other than Jesus Christ.

If, as the second-coming of Jesus, he does everything that the first Jesus did, why wasn't he born in Jerusalem and why wasn't he a carpenter?

New and improved Jesus2.0 ?

Also from the article

But critics in Russia have accused him of fleecing his loyal community of followers for personal gain.
The Jesus in the bible was repeatedly quoted telling people that riches were a hindrance and that they should give up their riches if they wanted to get into the "kingdom of heaven".

There's no record of Jesus taking money but he walked round in some nice, expensive clothing.

He went round performing 'miracles' to wow the crowds and to establish himself as a divine figure, encouraged people to give up their riches, and then faked his death. Evidenced by the fact that people later saw him alive. Then he was all like, "Uh, it's totally a miracle, I'm in no way trying to disappear with your money you gave up on the promise of getting into heaven".

I'm pretty sure that the Jesus of the bible might have been a early Peter Popoff.

That was not the message he gave. Money matters not when becoming a Christian.

There's no record of Jesus taking money but he walked round in some nice, expensive clothing.
He was a carpenter. He had a job. Therefore he had money. Where do you get the idea he had expensive clothing?

He went round saying performing 'miracles' to wow the crowds and to establish himself as a divine figure, encouraged people to give up their riches, and then faked his death. Evidenced by the fact that people later saw him alive. Then he was all like, "Uh, it's totally a miracle, I'm in no way trying to disappear with your money you gave up on the promise of getting into heaven".
So, the fact that he was put to death from crucifixion and put inside a tomb that had been blocked by an enormous boulder and protected by Roman guards leads you to believe that he faked his death?

Matthew 19:16-24

16Now a man came up to Jesus and asked, "Teacher, what good thing must I do to get eternal life?"

17"Why do you ask me about what is good?" Jesus replied. "There is only One who is good. If you want to enter life, obey the commandments."

18"Which ones?" the man inquired.

Jesus replied, " 'Do not murder, do not commit adultery, do not steal, do not give false testimony, 19honor your father and mother,'[d] and 'love your neighbor as yourself.'[e]"

20"All these I have kept," the young man said. "What do I still lack?"

21Jesus answered, "If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me."

22When the young man heard this, he went away sad, because he had great wealth.

23Then Jesus said to his disciples, "I tell you the truth, it is hard for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven. 24Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God."

Seems quite clear to me

He was a carpenter.
Was he? This is a common belief that's not backed up by scripture

Where do you get the idea he had expensive clothing?
Mark 15:24

"And when they crucified Him, they divided His garments, casting lots for them to determine what every man should take"

The Roman soldiers divided his clothing and gambled on who would take what. Not the actions you'd expect over the clothing of the average man on the street.

The fact that they took time to gamble over his various items of clothing is a strong indicator that his clothing was expensive and worth a fair amount of money.

So, the fact that he was put to death from crucifixion and put inside a tomb that had been blocked by an enormous boulder and protected by Roman guards leads you to believe that he faked his death?
The only 'evidence' for the whole story of Jesus is from the gospels. Therefore who's to say there was a guard outside the tomb. Who's to say this wasn't an embellishment by the writers? After all these stories were passed by word of mouth only up until they were eventually put into written form.

The Gospels weren't written by eyewitnesses but at a later date.

It wasn't until Christianity was accepted and taken on and added to by the Romans that these Gospels were written.

Does my explanation make less sense than a god sending himself to earth to sacrifice himself to himself and while he's here healing the sick with his magic spit, walking on water, bringing people who were dead and rotting back to life, magically turning water into wine and then bringing himself back to life to go back to heaven to become god again?

Seriously, you find my explanation far fetched and unbelievable but accept the above as perfectly plausible fact?
