As far as neighbors hearing the pleas for help... too many people get sued for being good samaritans and getting involved in domestic disputes so I can understand them not wanting to get involved. One thing I learned from various courses on women's self-protection: Do NOT yell rape, yell FIRE!!!!

More people will respond to it, and perhaps someone will come and help, or at least see something and make a call.....plus the FD usually responds quickly.

Also, get a gun and learn to use it correctly and within the laws of your state. That helped my self-confidence immensely!!

its sad though because aside from her BF who should be charged with murder for killing her, other ppl should have come to help or at least call the cops. something similar to this happened in the bay area recently where people heard shots fired and screams for help when a woman was shot, but no one did anything and she bled to death. its sad that we live in a society where people are either too self concerned to get involved with others OR that the legal and justice system is so fuct that people dont want to get involved because its such an inconvenience

It could be that they fight and scream and yell all the time and they didn't realize this was a different situation.

What's retarded is not thinking that women can, or want to, protect themselves. 3 out of 4 women WILL be raped in their lifetime. Think about that, in regards to 4 of the women you know. Imagine if 3 out of 4 rapists were taken out by their victims, don't you think the perps would think twice?

But a firearm is not so much to prevent rape, as to prevent being murdered at the hands of their violent boyfriends or husbands. I know of women who went by the book, had restraining orders, moved away, etc, and were STILL attacked by their exes! For many women, a gun is 'the great equalizer'.
