How did the toddler get so far away from her that he was on the tracks by himself?

Poor kid. Poor family. I hope they are able to recoup from this tragedy and cherish the time they had with him.

It sounds like the railway did what they could, and the parents let the child get too far off unsupervised. There was a gate, but it was designed to be opened with a push, so that someone on the inside could easily get out.

Tragic.

if the railway did what they could then they should not have changed the catch on the gate they should have left the proper catch that needed to be open by hand and not pushed open,
as for the perents leting him get to far in front he was only a few feet in front of the mum he had run after his unlce and older brother he was'nt on the tracks by himself she was right behind him she just couldent grab him god love her ,
i have heard from poeple who know the family she is suicidle ,it is truly tragic ,
