middle school discourages jelly bracelets, citing sexual meanings
"Reports indicate that the colors of the bracelets signify different inappropriate actions that students will do or have done," Principal Mike Medina wrote in an e-mail to parents Thursday. "Due to the nature of the inappropriateness associated with these bracelets, we are asking students not to wear them." picked by kakana 2 months ago

funny how this keeps popping up again and again. Probably only due to attempts to ban them.

here is one time back in 2003 that same thing happened

Kids are still wearing these?

I just had my 40th b-day party and it was 80's themed. I couldn't pay my kids to wear them for that let alone to school.

All the ones I see them wearing are for different causes, sports teams...

Bahahahaha!

"sex-bracelet Web sites"

Googling turns up this story, and Urban Dictionary

Secondly...That last quote is hysterical. If the biggest complaint these kids have is they can't wear a bracelet to be 'stylish' (or any other reason)...Well...Ha!

Instead of banning it, why don't the yellow ones become a piece of school uniform? If the snaps baloney is true then everybody gets a little friendlier- just not black-band friendly.

The elementary school I attended banned these for the same reason. Teachers would make the students cut them off if they saw anyone wearing any. Most everyone wore them, but I didn't know anyone who wore them to "signify different inappropriate actions"

It was 2001. *shows age*

this is so much b.s. I love how every couple of years some bored ass parent decides to make a big deal over this stuff.
In high school I wore them, purple black & blue, so many they reached half my arms. Never did it mean anything but just plain decoration.
I still have black purple and green bracelets that I wear every once in a while. If you're stupid enough to think they mean something that's your own damn problem. They only thing you're going to get is slapped if you try something.

my sister wears these to add color or to match with her outfits, and nothing more. It's not even a big deal with the kids who wear them. They'll say "Hey, you know if I break this one you'll have to ____?" Of course, they're only joking and anyone who thinks that they'll actually do anything because of the bracelets is stupid.

I agree with Maven, that last comment was indeed laughable! As for the whole bracelet thing...who gives a rat's butt anyway. Why can't they just wear a bracelet to wear one?

In the ridiculous circumstance that the school might be right regarding the meanings some group of kids have assigned to the colors of the bracelets, it would still be impossible for them to stop the kids from coming up with some other innocuous code to represent what they wish to express. If they started writing YYNNNYNNYY on their class folders, I'm sure that the schools would then discuss or try banning writing on class folders. Good luck with that.
