Ohio Inmate traumatized after failed execution
COLUMBUS, Ohio – The lawyer for an inmate whose execution was halted after an unprecedented two hours said trying to put him to death again in a week could be a disaster.

This isn't about him, it is about how badly the execution went. Cruel and unusual punishment is not allowed in the US (Although many say that the deathpenalty already is cruel).

I'm against the death penalty, mainly because it is an ineffective way of punishment, with no way for corrections if found out that the person was innocent all along.

Plus, live imprisonment is in fact a deathpenalty in itself. Much cheaper too.

Exactly. He raped and murderd a child 25 freaking years ago. The f**king useless piece of crap should have been executed 24 years ago.

If you can't find a vein because he used too many drugs, I'm sure others can find a way to execute him. If he is traumatized, well boo-f**king-hoo.

Bring back the guillotine. Quick, painless, fail-proof ... and would boost the mop economy.

DoggySpew, I agree that this isn't about the victim. I also understand and agree about "cruel and unusual". I happen to feel that some crimes are so heinous that there is no other recourse than to remove them from this earth. I feel that it is used more often than it should be, but it should be an option.

I did a bit of reading (on the internet so take it with a grain of salt) and came across this article : where it talks about the basic monetary costs. By their research, yes, it is cheaper to keep a prisoner alive. Looking deeper I found that it is because the costs associated with getting the death penalty were so much higher than the same trial asking for life in jail.

My question (and I will take my answer off the air ;)) is, did the study show how many of these "lifers" get out before they die. How many of these "lifers" that did get out killed or raped or maimed again (or even did the same types of crime in prison). In the end, they chose their life, but not their consequences. Their victims never got to choose. How much value should we put on them? Is it worth the extra millions to make sure some of these criminals never do it again.

DoggySpew, I am not attacking you. I respect your viewpoint and have always found Plime to be a great place for discussion. I ask these questions to get other viewpoints that may affect mine (possibly changing the way I see the issue).

Wake me up when America finally decides to join the civilized world.

Come on, folks. The days of the Wild West are long over.

You can't whine about everybody else's 'human rights violations' if you continue to act like barbarians yourselves.

Don't get me wrong. America does a lot of good in the world. But that good is negated by the bad it does.

Find a more civilized way to deal with criminals (oh, and with the elderly, and also with the poor).

And get yourselves a decent health care system while you're at it.

Some people have veins that are referred to as "crawler" veins; at the sight of a needle, the veins retreat inward. Blood can easily be drawn from a main vein in the pelvic region - problem solved.

I think you are echoing the concerns of a lot of Americans. We want a lot of those things (don't you think we want good health care?)

However, you are being a d**k. Where are you from? I'm sure I could lump all the citizens there and criticize all of them in such a pointless stereotype.

"America" is not so simple a word to flesh out. Who is "America"? Its a bunch of contradictions and conflict.
