Parents Sue Walmart After Kids' Bath Photos Fiasco
Parents Sue Walmart After Kids' Bath Photos Fiasco
An Arizona couple accused of sexual abuse after taking bath-time photos of their children and then trying to have them developed at Walmart are suing the state and the retail giant.

Lisa and Anthony "A.J." Demaree's three young daughters were taken away by Arizona Child Protective Services last fall when a Walmart employee found partially nude pictures of the girls on a camera memory stick taken to the store for processing, according to the suit. picked by nickcobb 2 months ago

Sue the police? Maybe.

Sue WalMart because they reported what could have been a crime? No. Hell no. Did WalMart inform you of their policy? Who knows. The point is that the policy is nearly universal and certainly is among any company with more than a few employees.

WalMart as well as the general public may also call the police if they see someone perpetrate any of a host of crimes. You don't need to be told that there is a policy of reporting what seems to be a crime.

Yes it is ridiculous that such images are investigated by means of a witch hunt. However that doesn't mean you can sue the people who merely reported suspicious activity. They are not responsible for the actions of the police.

Of course, the family is hoping that they can add WalMart to the lawsuit so they can make a quick buck.

I didn't realize CPS had such a large amount of time and man power that they could harass even the most non abusive parents.

While I appreciate the clerk looking out for the safety of the children, I can't help but be saddened that what should have been memories of a happy moment between parents and children has now turned into a CPS investigation.

What a f**ked up world we live in.

Sure, as long as they're not recent ones.

I have 3 little girls as well, and my wife and i have all kinds of pictures of them in the bath together... or their little naked butts running around the house...

geez...this nation has gone into a panic frenzy of who knows what...

people are so soft and ignorant these days.

if any f-ing walmart employee pulled that sh-t on me, i would have leaned over the counter and choked that son of a bit-h.

accusing me of child endangerment towards my three little girls...

holy crap... i would kill for those 3 pieces to the puzzle of my life...

especially some short bus, helmet wearing walmart employee who accuses me of abusing my girls...

done deal.

I bet most of us have pictures of ourselves in the bath - as kids.

But that was before the world got so damn anal.

This crap just keeps getting more and more out of hand. Teachers can't hug to comfort a child, kids can't touch each other at school. A man in Brazil arrested because he kissed his daughter in public.

For god sake, when is this s**t going to end?

Clerk sees little girls in various states of undress, he is required by law to report it to the police... what would happen if he wasn't required?

Is THIS guy the girls father, or the 'kindly babysitter'? Is THIS mother the mother or is she the one who owns 'littlegirlslittletramps'.com where she charges $20 membership rates for perverts to stare at pictures she got developed at Walmart?

You would be screaming bloody murder if someone took pictures of YOUR kids and the clerk at Walmart just ignored it.

CPS overrreacted. Walmart didn't. And before you get down on 'Stupid Walmart employees' just remember.. the last electronics manager I knew of... was there during the summer when he wasn't teaching 300 level econmics with his Phd.

I agree the clerk was being cautious and following the rules. It went to hell from there.

But do perverts really even try to get pictures developed like that? That's awfully stupid, don't you think?

Geez, I am SO glad I have my own photo printer. And a digital camera. I have pics of all 3 of my kids in the tub together. I have 2 boys and a girl. My neighbor took a pic of her little girl in the tub with my oldest 2 (with my permission). Privates are not visible, but it is obvious they are undressed. Does that make us perverts? No. It is memories. I NEVER post bath pics online anywhere. But I still have the pics. I also have pics of my youngest on the potty. I do see Walmart's side, tho. They have to report any suspicious pictures. Though, I do know my neighbor had the pics of our kids in the tub developed as they were taken with a film camera. As far as I know, she didnt get in trouble for it.

Are people going to be accused of child porn for taking pics of a baby right after its born next? I just think it is going too far with all the child porn freak outs. But, this is the world we live in now, sadly.

If every time a parent took their baby bath pictures to a store to get developed this country would be in such disarray because EVERY employee would HAVE TO report to authorities. I am surprised we haven't been arrested a number of times.

With the way things are going, why not just put an image scanning device inside printers and digital cameras with a direct link to the authorities just in case. You can never be too cautious.

Yup. And as I said earlier what about pictures of newborn babies? What about pictures of a baby being born!! I mean, THAT could be considered pornography for reasons I dont really want to go into. (Its not really pornography, but with how prude people are becoming, it wouldnt surprise me if people started thinking giving birth was child abuse). It is sad that a picture of a mom breastfeeding her child is porn, a child in the bathtub is porn, a child running around the house naked is porn. What next? kids in bathing suits is porn?

A man got in trouble for taking pictures of his OWN child in a park!! For crying out loud. Why not jus make photography illegal? Ban all cameras. That will solve all our problems.

Not as stupid as checking your facebook while robbing someone's house?

I think it may be difficult, if not impossible, to keep child abuse cases like this in control.

In this case it was just a couple parents with keepsakes. But what about the thousands of parents with "child models" that get away with it all the time?

In general home printed photos do not last as long as those printed in a photo lab. If the parents want to have the pictures around long enough to embarrass their kids when they get to dating age, they'll need a lab to print them.

I have a photo printer that uses photo paper. The pictures are no different than what is printed in a lab. Sure, it may be more expensive, but it is way more convenient.
