Got the Swine Flu, eh? Here's a Body Bag...
Along with the shipment of hand sanitizers and face masks, an area of Canada hardest hit by the swine flu was given body bags.

This is one of those stories that has different sides depending on the source. Other articles I've read have indicated that the body bags were a normal part of annual supplies and really had nothing to do with the H1N1 virus.

On the other hand, delaying the hand sanitizer shipment because they were afraid the natives were going to chug it down to get a buzz? Come on, Canada.

The stereotypical native will drink Pinesol to get a buzz. Obviously this is a stereotype, but substance abuse IS a real problem on nearly every Rez in the nation.

I'm living in Yellowknife, in the NWT where these body bags were delivered.
It is a real problem here for the locals to drink anything with alcohol. Hairspray, hand sanitizer, aftershave.
I thought it was one of those horrible stereotypes too, until I actually arrived here and SAW people pouring bottles of Finesse (cheap hairspray) into bottles of orange soda.
I have to swerve around stumbling drunk people at 7am on my way to work, there people passed out on the sidewalks, or in the road. I mean, I usually see less than 5, but we've only got a population of about 20k.

Delaying the hand sanitizer because of the risk of people drinking was really an option. Most of the communities up here are dry, specifically because of the problems with substance abuse.
