 Oh my!
Oh my!
Iowa won't take the 79 year-old hit and run driver's license even after he killed a bicyclist with his car. Why not? He's innocent until proven guilty, and passed his last eye exam. picked by meggysue 2 months ago

Well now...

The court isn't pulling his license. The DOT still can, and his current license expires in October, at which time he'll have to pass another eye exam.

If the man has any brains at all, he isn't driving anyway.

Hopefully his family isn't allowing it either.

One other point: If a drunk driver's license can be suspended, why can't this man's? If the forensic evidence places him at the scene and there were witnesses, it seems a no-brainer.

Because there isn't a HUGE lobby that will jump to the defense of a drunk.

An elderly man, on the other hand...Well.

I just have to comment on the theme pic and how it immediately brought me back to when I was studying that book and my unfortunate experience in drivers ed.

20/100... That's his vision.

What you see at 100 feet away, he needs to be 80 feet closer in order to see.

So while you're slowing down because there is an accident 100 feet in the distance, he's still going at his normal speed until he hits about 20 feet away, and he sees the accident and slows down.

When I hit that vision, I TURNED IN my license. Yes, it's a kick in the head losing that freedom. Yes, it's hard to work when you need to be driven to work every day. Yes, it's still what every responsible driver should do.

So why do they hold people in jail or take away people's children before a trial, if they are innocent until proven guilty?

That is a great point. Also, the article didn't mention if he was arrested right afterwards or bailed out or whatever. I wondered about that too.

In one eye.

He may have 20/20 vision in the other eye. There are many people completely blind in one eye who have 20/20 vision in the other eye who have driver's licenses...if this were the case for anyone, they should be able to drive without there being an issue. This is the case for many people, teens, adults, seniors...regardless of their age.
