Ahmadinejad is an insane man. If he lived here they would force him to have electroshock therapy.

This was a VERY good speech. He didn't really invoke religion back up his opinion and he spoke very logically.

Free speech not a viable notion at the UN?

Sure, but only when Ahmadinejad and the rest of those wackos allow free speech in their country, and to their people without fearing punishment.

That's why I didn't say they were the same, I said they had similarities, just like you just named a similarity.
And technically I didn't even say that, I just pondered saying it because the similarities end pretty quickly.

Any leader who has nothing but blatant disregard of the very basic and fundamental beliefs and purpose of the U.N. ought not even be there. That is not the venue and he should not be allowed a platform.

That's just foolish.

The UN is a world forum. It's important that everyone speak regardless of their convictions, stupidity, or religious government. Their ranting should be exposed in a world wide venue.


Censorship always has the problem of who is going to be the censor. Did we appoint ourselves?

We don't allow someone to yell fire in a crowded theater. We don't allow inflammatory racist speech. There is a certain high ground that moral people must adhere to.

Before he spoke, the EU, for one, agreed they'd leave if he (again) denied the Holocaust or (again) said he wanted to wipe Israel off the map. He didn't say that this time, altho many didn't care and left anyway. It isn't like people don't already know what his convictions are, or expect him to say anything different than he's said a million times already. He's not interested in peace and humanitarian talks, he's just forwarding his agenda and merely taking advantage of and loving the stage he's getting.


By the same token, Joe Wilson shouldn't have gotten any grief for his outburst then.. Every thing and every place has rules of decorum and 'engagement', I guess (for lack of a better word). It isn't a matter of censorship at all.
