Good...Eeyore always made me so sad.

Remember that Winnie The Pooh for DOS game where you had to find everyone's things before the blustery wind scattered them? And you had the option to scratch behind Eeyore's ears and he'd tell you no because he didn't deserve to have his ears scratched?

OMG, that used to make me cry.

He totally missed the point of Eeyore.

He was not pessimistic, he was depressed, not the same.
And even though he was sad, he still hung out with everyone, and everyone loved him. And once in a while he came out of his depression. Balloons made him happy.

I don't like that he changed him. There are depressed people in the world, why can't he just be depressed?

A smiling Eeyore is like a smiling Wednesday Addams.

Unnatural.

BUT But but just think all of those people who will now see Eeyore and think their lives are better because he is no longer depressed and they won't think that depressed is a cool thing to be...

Brb...

Going to slit my wrists...

I loved the old Eeyore...

Fine, then. I want you all to know that Eeyore's going to go drown himself in a lake because none of you want him to be happy.

Eeyore has a lesson. An important one, too.

Being happy all the time isn't realistic.

Sometimes there's a reason for being sad. Sometimes it just happens. But either way, it's something that everyone needs to learn to accept and handle. That's one of the things depressed people struggle with--coping with being sad, not letting it turn into a spiral that takes you deeper and deeper.

So, no, I'm not happy to have a sad Eeyore. But I'm tired of the media stripping away the things that make them uncomfortable and putting children in some pastel painted gleeville where everything is shiny and bright and happy.

It's not reality. And at some point in time, kids WILL deal with losing. And deal with being sad. And deal with things just not going their way. If they don't learn how to deal with those things, they're in for a heck of a rough time as adults.

YOUR FAULT
It's not that we don't him to be happy.
We want him to be who he is.

Anyone would be unhappy if no one remembered their birthday, their tail was always coming unpinned and their house was always falling down (or knocked down by Tigger).

My sister has depression, and she has always loved Eeyore. Maybe because she could relate to him. I don't know. I just know that he is a sweet little donkey who smiles once in a while cause he knows his friends love him no matter what.
