Baby's Named a Bad, Bad Thing
Baby's Named a Bad, Bad Thing
A Primer on Parent Cruelty

Sometimes unique names cross the fine line into unusual, bizarre or even cruel. Nice to read in conjunction with this historic Plime post. picked by chinook 2 months ago

A good friend of mine is having a baby, and after an email war of sending each other hideous and hilarious 'names', she sent me this link.

I feel a bit cheated, I was either cruising teh interwebz or being creative to find funny names, and hers were always better but now I see she had a cheat sheet.

OMG! I can't stop loling...

Edit to add: My grandfather was named Santos, which is the Spanish word for 'Saint'

I told my husband that, if we decided to have kids and it was a boy, I would like to name him after my grandfather...

He laughed at me...

:P

I laughed too...

My favorite so far is the couple that has these children already: Jack Dominick, Rose Solenne, Monroe Charlize, Ophelia Eden, Heart Scarlett, Pascal Sebastien

My sister and her husband are going to start a family pretty soon. They've been thinking of some names already; I should send her this before she gets too crazy.

A game me and my work mate play is to find the weirdest and silliest names in schools

so far: Rodark, Merlin, Ocean, Beau, Justice, Jaden, Braiden, Finbar, Blade...

The list grows!

And I am allowed to comment because my name is Kiel, which is weird, and everyone says it wrong

When my mother was pregnant with me, my parents actually got into a fight because my father wanted to name me Page (or Paige). Our last name was Turner.
Page Turner.

My mom was originally going to name me Elvira Gertrude (Elvira after my grandmom and Gertrude because she likes that name)

Luckily at the last minutes the Fates intervened and I was name something completely different. I don't know how my life would've turned out if I was named Elvira Gertrude, all I know is that the jokes would be never ending.

That isn't a bad name, it's a f*cking badass name.

I kept a list of all the horrible names I ran across while working for the different Walmart portrait studios. I'll have to dig it up. For the most part it was along the lines of Brayzen, Braelynn, Braelee, Braillee, Bryleigh, Brieleey, Ryelea, Haelee, Hailey, Haylei, Hayden, Aydyn, Jaedin, Jayelynne, you get the picture.

And the three kids named Brooklynne, Parys and Londynne.

And the two kids named Nadisyn and Javid.

Also, Shep and Bevario will understand why the couple that had just moved from Michigan regretted naming their kids Holden, Logan and Madison. (all three are s**tty little Southern WV towns that are in close proximity to each other).

And my favorites, the two little redheaded kids named Aleylezhey and Exzaviour, who had the evillest mother in history (and not just because she named her kids Aleylezhey and Exzaviour).

If I got a kid named Joey or Anna, I'd just about bake them a cake.

I love when others think they can comment on a name...not your kid so why do you care?

My kids are

heaven, august, isis, justice, & wyatt

Anyone who doesn't like it can kiss my ass. People tend to forget that there is a new naming trend out there...by the time our children are adults, their names will be the "norm". I love the fact that where I live "different" names are everywhere. My kids go to school with a ton of kids who do not have "Jack" and "Jane" names.

Meh, so long as you and every parent understands that unusual names WILL be mispronounced, misspelled, often teased in elementary school and occasionally mistaken for the wrong gender, it's no big deal. The parental right to freak out at someone for these misspellings, mispronunciations and mistaken genders is relinquished upon giving the kid an unusual name.

This is coming from someone with an unusual (in the 80's and 90's) name.

It makes me sad that my name is becoming mainstream. I laugh so hard when wannabe hip moms look at me weird when I introduce myself and they find their new and cutting-edge daughters name has been in existence for a few decades already. Muah ha ha ha ha

I have an uncommon name (Guinevere) and had no problem giving my kids unusual names (Vienna, Octavia, and Zavan - pronounced Zayvin), however we thought long and hard about the names we chose. In the end, kids get teased for just about anything in school anyway. Octavia gets mistaken for a boy constantly, not because of her name, but because she chooses to keep her hair very short. Zavan's name is misheard constantly, as Nathan or David, but he quickly corrects people and they usually don't make the mistake again. Vienna's only problem with her name is that people try to call her Deena or Dee-anna. We gave them "normal" names for their middle names, mostly named after relatives, so maybe they'll choose to use them later in life, but for now they don't have a problem with not being able to find their name on a tourist key chain in gift shops.

Names have been getting mispronounced since the beginning of time, nothing has changed. My name is Tonya....I can't tell you how many times I had to correct people on the pronunciation of that. Luckily my kids names are pretty simple, basic names to say...no issues there.

(whats your name, I'm curious now..lol)
