 Cameron attacks ‘big government’
Cameron attacks ‘big government’
“Who made the poorest poorer?” he asked. “Who left youth unemployment higher? Who made inequality greater? No, not the wicked Tories – you, Labour, did this to our society.”

Okay.. granted, I don't know a damn thing about British politics but I would definitely vote for this guy. picked by shuallyo 2 months ago

Actually I read the above article about the platform Cameron is running on and contrasted it with what the Labour party has accomplished. Then I made my decision.

I should have said... "granted I know only a little bit about British politics"

I am British, and I still stand by the Liberal Democrats. We have 3 Major parties to vote for, and about 500 minor parties. British voting isn't as clear cut as American voting. Our ballot papers aren't one or the other, it's a big choice over many parties.

Granted, it might be the same in American, but I hate the way the media spins it to one or the other... (it might be the same in the USA, but we in the UK only get the 2 party spin)

The tories are, at one point, saying that they are supporting the poor whilst at the same time saying that they are going to get rid of a load of benefits. They are also raising inheritance tax up to the million pound threshold, which I believe will encourage saving, not spending and make the recession worse. It is also proof that they are working for their own good and not the poor.

It is starting to change a bit in the Lib Dems favour after many people have lost faith in the labour government.

Simply handing out benefits to people with no stipulations doesn't exactly promote self-reliance either.

I don't understand why people have downvoted this article.
I don't like Cameron, I don't agree with the shuallyo's views on benifits, but I didn't downvote the article.

Shuallyo is not Cameron. Shuallyo is not a member of goverment, so why take it out on him?

It was an interesting article. Thats why I upvoted.

I know. I upvote stories I disagree with. I don't know why people thought it necessary to downvote my comment either. Which was not mean spirited. It simply stated my opinion. I have refrained from downvoting people on here for WAY worse comments that were very judgemental towards my beliefs. I know you may disagree with me. But hey thanks for sticking up for me!

BTW. I speak in an ill manner toward these government benefits because I have personal experience with it. Many people/families in my hometown and surrounding areas see these benefits less as a crutch and more of a career option, remaining in a state of lazy complacency. I personally feel the welfare system, to the extent it has been utilized, erodes society, rather than builds it. The proof is in the pudding too. Visit areas of the inner cities here heavily influenced by the welfare system and look at the conditions of the housing and educational system. They never improve and continue to degrade. Welfare sedates the masses and lends control to the government... I just wish people could see that.

Cameron is an anti-politician - a vacuum where policy should be. He stands for nothing but his own self promotion. At present it seems likely that the tories will win the next election and we, the British public, are in for a spell of disaster as a result.

Cameron's speech represents either outright lies or a lack of political understanding and historical memory that is truly staggering.

The damage that the Tories did last time - the unemployment, the pillaging of the nation's assets, the potential of our youth, and countless other things.

Perhaps the most appalling thing about this man though is that he is here using his son's death to gain political leverage and popularity. Truly sickening.

That aside though, and not from a confrontational point of view, would you like to see the end of all benefits (to put it harshly, if you don't work, you starve) or some sort of benefit reform that for example forced claimants to give something back? For example, feed the system back on itself and make unemployed claimants help out with claimants who are physically incapacitated?
