 Colorado Firewater
Colorado Firewater
Ever since the gas company started drilling, residents of this Colorado town have a new trick: They can set their tap water on fire. Video included in link.

People in the area should probably discontinue, the practice of, smoking while showering. At least till this little problem gets worked out.

It was new to me, and new on the Consumerist.

In July the water was still flaming, although the director of the Colorado Oil and Gas Conservation Commission had this to say: "The wells were not the source of the gas. .... We don't believe there is a current leak or problem that endangers public safety." Another website, the Infrastructurist, points out that it's not an isolated incident among people dwelling along the Marcellus Shale formation and posts a video from an in-progress documentary called "Water Under Attack". The video on the Infrastructurist site is outdated, so watch the newest one.

My choice of avatar today is just plain ironic, considering.
